Why Alexander Structures?
Alexander Structures is a small business focused on quality (not quantity) and true customer satisfaction. At Alexander, we are focused on one material—wood, and because of that, can offer a high level of expertise with that material. Wood is a biological material with a high degree of natural variance and offers a unique engineering challenge. More importantly, wood invokes warm, soft feelings, and it makes us fell comfortable at home, in our home. Wood is also the only building material that is recyclable, renewable and biodegradable. Because of Alex's forestry background, Alexander Structures understands what traits make up a quality tree is and what it takes grow one; Alexander Structures appreciates that the environment is dynamic and fragile; Alexander Structures realizes that all trees are not equal; Alexander Structures recognizes that there is not "one best design".
From an engineering standpoint... truly anything is possible in terms of the final design. We focus on your priorities, not what is most convenient for us. For example, log-connecting hardware can be emphasized and visible, or it can be hidden within the logs. Log members can be used in structural applications, or applied aesthetically over less expensive engineered lumber. Massive timbers and giant field stone fireplaces can be emphasized, or we can focus on meticulously engineered, minimum-sized logs and energy efficiency.
Is cost an issue? Let Alexander Structures help. It’s possible to reduce cost by adding support columns, using engineered lumber, moving bearing walls, or using alternate materials such as steel. With minor, and sometimes unnoticeable modifications to the final design, it is possible to decrease the material/building cost by thousands of dollars.
Will only the best do? Alexander Structures understands the "no compromise" attitude. Why not use high decay resistant cedar logs instead of pine or fir? Don’t want any support columns in the garage or basement? No problem. How about a home theater room, or large second story balcony? What about a large indoor hot tub? Let Alexander Structures help.
